This course will meet from 8:30AM- 1:00PM in the Library Media Center at Baird Middle School on the following Saturdays:
Janaury 8 & 22, Febraury 5 & 12, March 5 & 19, 2011 Inclimate Weather:
If a class needs to be cancelled due to inclimate weather and eamil will be sent prior to 8:00AM. So PLEASE check your emails if the weather on a particular day is questionable before leaving your house. Please note that any class that is cancelled will need to be rescheduled.
It is expected that all participants be present for each sessions. In addition, participants will be expected to complete the homework assignments, that will include creating and submitting a SMART Notebook lesson to the Ludlow Technology Wiki, responding to wiki questions, sharing your use of technology in the classroom, etc.
Course Description: Participants in this course will have the opportunity to practice and expand their previously learned technology skills (SMART Board, educational wikis, web 2.0 applications) for teaching and learning. Participants will apply and implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for utilizing technology to maximize student learning. All of these tools will be utilized to support and encourage student success to directly correlate with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Participants will complete projects that are designed to “increase student learning, understanding & achievement, but also augments motivation to learn, encourages collaborative learning and supports the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.” (Pitler, 2007). This course will focus on strategies for helping students “learn with technology the way they live with technology. Bring the engagement and excitement students have about connected learning into classrooms by embracing the new technologies and skills students are experiencing outside of school.” (Cofino 2009).
This course will be taught in a face-to-face format with assignments set out as sessions of discovery, exploration and reflections to encourage collaboration. In addition, participants will be expected to contribute to the “Enhancing Learning Environments with Technology” wiki to collaborate and share ideas between classes (http://lpsintegratingtechnology.wikispaces.com/Welcome).
Course Objectives:
Demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to use, a variety of technology tools for teaching and learning:
Apply instructional strategies that effectively integrate technology use into the MA Curriculum Frameworks.
Develop lessons which support cooperative and collaborative learning and supports higher level thinking skills to maximize student achievement.
Access and effectively utilize online resources/web 2.0 applications for incorporating educational technology into specific content areas leading to positive outomes in student achievement.
Demonstrate the ability to collaborate utilizing Personal Learning Networks (PLN), Nings, Twitter, Plurk, etc. to enhance professional growth.
Ability to create SMART Notebook 10 lessons that incorporates advanced features (embedded videos, page recording, ink aware, etc).
